While the show isn't technically shounen-ai (gay male romance), it contains a lot of hints and fanservice. The scientific reason is revealed later and it gives Muraki's character quite a bit more depth, though you are longing for much more once the anime ends. He desires Tsuzuki's body both carnally and scientifically. Practically everything he does is just horrific and despicable, but he is so cool and gorgeous and entertaining that you can almost forgive him for being the monster he is. He is the subject of much admiration as well as loathing from DoD fans, and he deserves every bit of both. Muraki gets his own paragraph since no couple of sentences could possibly do him justice. This is mostly because they seem a bit out of place (being two cutesy little talking birds in an otherwise human cast). The Gushoshin twins are the only characters that could really be considered annoying. They don't really add that much to the anime, but they don't detract from it either. Watari and Tatsumi are minor characters who had significantly larger roles in the manga. Hisoka has a little bit of an attitude problem at first, but once it becomes apparent where he is coming from, you can't help but sympathize with the guy. Tsuzuki is a real sweety despite being a little bit dense and childlike at times. Tsuzuki and Hisoka are the protagonists of our story. The series consists mostly of fairly mediocre characters, yet it has what I consider to be one of the greatest villains in anime history. Even though it isn't really a fighting anime, the action sequences should be awesome enough to please those who would otherwise be bored with the drama. The art and music are also absolutely beautiful! Descendants of Darkness has a superb soundtrack which is well worth downloading or even buying! Aside from the characters being beautiful, the monsters and magic are also magnificently rendered. While some of the humor and silliness are there, the anime takes on a more serious tone, capitalizing more on the angst, mystery, and supernatural element of the story. In fact, I find it to be an improvement over the manga. Fans of the manga might also be disappointed that a lot of the manga's characters are either left out or shovedĭespite these unfortunate circumstances, I think that the anime more than does the manga justice. Since the anime leaves off where the manga caries on (the manga isn't finished either), the ending doesn't really offer a true conclusion and a lot of questions are left unanswered. Three episodes comprise each of the first three arcs while the last four episodes focus on the fourth. It follows four major story arcs of the manga. I hope they improve in the future, and I wish them the best.īut with this, it's clearly visible that this 5 minutes adapted from mobile otoge anime is not important enough of a project to have decent voice actors.Note: This review has been updated to be consistent with my changing views on anime.ĭescendants of Darkness is based on the manga of the same name. I feel so bad honestly, but I can't lie, the quality is bad. The voice actors are obviously new comers and probably are chosen so they can have more opportunity in the future, but damn. but if not then, what's wrong here? otome audience usually consider VA to be important which is why drama CD is popular among this demographic, knowing this they went and chose the worst VA I have ever heard in anime. They're so bad I almost feel bad for them, like, what is going on? I never play the game so I don't know if the characters have voice actors in the game, if they are the same voice actors in the game and in the anime, then I guess it is fine. The voice acting.įor something that came from otoge, something that has women and girls as the target audience, having bad VA quality is very strange. The art and story is okay, the art is actually pretty good, everyone looks handsome whatsoever, but there is one thing that bothers me. There is nothing wrong with it being typical otoge with typical mediocre characters. and everything, the idea of making 7 princes of hell to be love interest is interesting to me, but turns out it is just mediocre, some of them are just not lazy enough or angry enough, but whatever. I wanted to play Obey Me for a while but I didn't have a time to yet, so when I notice it has anime I just went and watch it just to see how is the vibe I love otome games, especially if they are a bit dark. to be hearing this quality of voice acting in a supposedly professional made animation is just. Ok, first of all, I'm gonna say, I have never experience or heard voice acting (or casting) as bad as this, I have heard amateur voice acting better than this in some indie games or whatever.
